Job OverviewResponsible for a variety of housekeeping duties in and around the hospital. Assists where necessary to provide a clean and sanitary environment. All other duties as requested/required.
Prerequisites- 6 months of experience in commercial housekeeping (highly preferred).
- Demonstrates understanding of written and verbal communications in English.
- Leads must have 6 months experience in housekeeping at Valley Medical Center.
- Successful completion of the Work Steps evaluation.
- Working knowledge of computers (highly preferred).
- Communicates effectively in English.
- Demonstrates good interpersonal skills in a diverse population.
- Able to work on assigned shift.
- Able to work on weekends.
- Works independently.
Ability to stand during majority of the shift; walking on campus ~5 hours; pushing/pulling trash and linen carts requiring 48 lbs push/pull force; bending, stretching, stooping, reaching overhead, twisting wrists and arms; rarely kneeling; lifting up to 32 pounds with proper body mechanics; exposure to cleaning solutions, chemicals, blood, body fluids with PPE; transport various supplies; clean areas 10 feet above floor with extension;
collect waste and linen.

“Seldom” - 1 lift per hour; “Occasionally” - 1 lift per 3 minutes (max 140 lifts in 8-hour); “Frequently” - 1 lift per 1.5 minutes (max 280 lifts); “Continuously” - 1 lift per minute (max 420 lifts). Repetition levels defined.

- Cleans/performs assigned tasks and projects in the assigned area according to procedures.
- Fills out assignment completion report daily and turns it in to the shift supervisor.
- Communicates cleaning needs/maintenance/repairs and other concerns.
- Responds to customer cleaning requests timely.
- Performs daily patient room cleaning and discharge cleaning per procedures.
- Collects and transfers trash and soiled linen.
- Empties waste receptacles and linen holders.
- Clears trash/linen carts to prevent reuse.
- Sweeps, dust mops and wet mops floors.
- Auto‑washes, machine scrubs, burnishes, vacuums or periodically polishes floors.
- Washes walls, ceilings, windows, sinks, cabinets, plumbing fixtures.
- Refills disposable supplies such as towels, soap, toilet paper.
- Monitors quality, reports repair/maintenance needs, inspects own work daily.
- Completes special cleaning assignments as assigned.
- Attends department in‑service and education meetings or reads minutes.
- Follows policies, procedures and practices outlined in Employment Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Ensures adequate staffing levels.
- Ensures adequate service at all times, staffing adjustments, assistance to staff.
- Answers telephone and responds timely.
- Collects and handles waste and soiled linen per procedures.
- Cleans/performs assigned tasks in assigned area.
- Cleans/performs assigned tasks in the assigned area including vacuuming, projects, carpet/hard floor care and room setup.
