Rail Utility Service Worker

Position Overview

Rail Utility Service Worker responsible for cleaning and light maintenance of the interior and exterior of Link Light Rail vehicles, shop and yard maintenance, and shop equipment.

Employees must be able and willing to work any shift, any day and at any location and work one of three shifts (day, swing, and graveyard). They may have mid‑week regular days off. Work schedule is 40 hours per week. Overtime pay may be paid if scheduled.

Hourly wage: $23.54 per hour (Step 1 of pay scale).

Work locations include Operations and Maintenance Facility – Central (3407 Airport Way S, Seattle, WA), Operations and Maintenance Facility – East th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA) and various track end‑point terminals.

• Clean interior and exterior of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) or streetcars by hand washing, steam cleaning, and using solvents, soaps, and cleaning chemicals.
• Report any defects to supervisor.
• Maintain logs for commodities used.
• Remove trash and debris from LRVs or streetcars.
• Check and replenish consumables such as sand and wiper fluid.
• Maintain shop facilities and/or vehicles following written procedures or as instructed.
• Clean and service shop equipment and/or vehicles.
• Make deliveries or pickups of materials.
• Operate computer for related data input and retrieval.
• Perform related duties as required.

• One year of professional cleaning experience.
• Experience with basic janitorial techniques.
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment such as pressure washers, steam cleaners and scrubbers.
• Knowledge of basic safety rules, practices and OSHA laws.
• Basic knowledge of and skill using computer software for data maintenance (e.g., Maintenance Management Information Systems).
• Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
• Skill in using common hand tools, maintenance and/or cleaning equipment.
• Physical ability to perform simple numeric calculations and record keeping tasks.
• Ability to work under established deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people.

• Experience with biohazards and human waste.
• Experience performing light maintenance on equipment or similar type work.

• Lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift objects up to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Frequent walking, reaching, climbing, kneeling and stooping.
• Work in confined spaces and at heights and in cramped and awkward positions.

• Washington State driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Out-of-state candidates must obtain a Washington State license prior to hire.
• Right of Way Protection Worker Certification.
• Forklift certification.
