2nd Shift Custodian School Long Term Substitute

Custodian – Full Time 40 Hours a Week

Foster-Glocester Regional School District is currently accepting applications for a highly effective custodian to work as a collaborative member of a team that ensures our schools are clean, attractive, comfortable, and safe places. Located in scenic Northwest Rhode Island, our regional school district serves approximately 1,300 students in grades 6-12 for the communities of Foster and Glocester Rhode Island. The district engages in multi-year budgeting and forecasting.

Through sound fiscal management, our school district has been able to reallocate resources to meet student needs.

This is an important role in the functioning of our schools as the custodian prepares the school for learning and interacts with students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities and duties include:

• Responsible for all general cleaning and maintenance of the building in accordance with job tasks as assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds or Principal.
• Cleaning of classrooms, offices, corridors, stairwells, toilet facilities, shower rooms, gymnasiums, dining facilities, foyers, auditoriums, special use rooms, entrances, teachers' rooms and medical facilities according to schedules.
• Scheduled preventative maintenance procedures and/or minor repairs to systems and/or components within assigned areas.
• Operates heating, A/C, ventilation, electrical and mechanical systems.
• Snow removal, as required using hand tools, power equipment such as snowblowers and garden type tractors with attachments, and/or heavy equipment such as truck plow or tractor plow combinations.
• Performs minor furniture repairs, minor repair maintenance, and minor painting.
• Assists in insect and rodent control.
• Assists in the maintenance of lawns involving mowing, trimming, and care of shrubbery and assists in the maintenance of athletic/play areas, concrete and blacktop surfaces.
• Generally supervises the school building and grounds and assumes responsibility for general security and fire safety of the buildings.
• By conduct, appearance and manner, the school custodian shall set the highest example to students, staff and visitors.
• Assumes responsibility for observing and reporting any needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building and grounds.
• Will substitute for other custodial staff and/or work a different schedule as needed to meet the needs of the district.

Physical demands include sitting, hearing, seeing, talking, standing, walking, bending, reaching, grasping, lifting up to 50 pounds, twisting, stooping or kneeling, and typing on a keyboard. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Communication requirements include the ability to hear and respond to voice and other sounds via the telephone and in small and large settings with background noise.
