The Facilities and Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the physical environment of all buildings, grounds and equipment in support of Clergy, Educators, Parishioners, and Staff.
The ideal candidate is hands‑on, self‑motivated, service-oriented, and experienced in commercial facility maintenance. While applicants need not be Catholic, they must be supportive of Catholic Church teaching and strive to not say or do anything that contradicts those teachings. The Facilities & Maintenance Technician regularly interacts with parishioners and must do so with courtesy, grace and tact.
This is a full‑time position reporting to the Facilities Manager and will require occasional evening, weekend and special event work. We offer competitive salary and health and retirement benefits, and a supportive team environment with the opportunity to serve in a mission‑driven organization.
Responsibilities- Ensure that St. Joseph Catholic Church’s sacred spaces (Sanctuary, Chapel, devotional areas, etc.) as well as School facilities provide a prayerful, peaceful, inviting, well‑maintained and safe environment for clergy, educators, students, parishioners, visitors, and staff.
- Perform general maintenance and repair of buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms, and campus facilities.
- Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, doors, locks, and basic mechanical systems.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs and scheduled inspections.
- Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for church services, school activities, and special events.
- Monitor campus for safety hazards and respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance storage areas.
- Assist during emergencies, severe weather events, or after‑hours facility needs when required.
- Assist in the planning, installation/implementation of repairs and renovations, ensuring that repairs/renovations are safe.
- As directed by the Facilities Manager, orders equipment, supplies, and oversees inventory control of Facilities‑related items.
- Performs other duties/projects as assigned by the Facilities Manager, Director of Business Operations, and Pastor.
- At least two years of facilities and/or maintenance experience, with a focus on hands‑on repairs.
- Commercial maintenance or facilities experience in schools, churches, or large multi‑building campuses preferred.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and maintenance equipment safely.
- Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically active work.
- Ability to work effectively with contractors to maintain the facility, manage multiple projects simultaneously and establish work priorities.
- Work professionally and effectively with ministries and parishioners.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
- Current driver’s license required.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
