Facilities Technician
Incumbents have substantial latitude in determining the best methods and procedures to follow to complete assignments. Tasks are broad and complex in nature where considerable independent judgment and discretion are required. Strong initiative is required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions may have an impact on the department's/divisions goals. May also be the entry level for the professional career path.
Assignments are received in the form of results expected. Possesses broad knowledge of operations and policies. May provide functional guidance to others performing similar work and/or provide project or task leadership. May be considered the expert in areas assigned. Builds strong internal and external relationships that require exchanging information and providing explanations in a problem solving capacity. Interfaces regularly with persons of higher positions.
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
Works with suppliers, contractors and consultants to ensure response and action on demand to building maintenance, safety and security issues and requests. Supports installation of building equipment. Works on multiple projects of varying complexity. Coordinates renovation and remodeling projects and ensures good communication to all affected parties. Ensures compliance with ISO 14001 environmental management system standards where applicable. Provides support of local and state authorities where appropriate.
Strong knowledge of electrical, electromechanical and pneumatic systems and principals of operation. In-depth understanding of facility operations and related issues and requirements including ISO 14001 requirements where applicable. Knowledge of facility processes and programs. Ability to gather and analyze data and determine root cause of problems. Strong knowledge of methods used in the routine maintenance and repair of office and manufacturing facilities.
Strong knowledge of building operating systems. Ability to operate complex equipment (e.g., tractors, delivery trucks, etc.) and other machinery / equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, high-lift equipment, power tools, etc.) Proof of required operator's licenses and / or certifications. Project management skills. Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers. Ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse group of employees to achieve high production levels within tight time deadlines.
Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc. Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions, sitting in confined work spaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials. Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects over 20 pounds.
Four to six years of relevant experience. Additional courses after High School, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational requirements may vary by geography.
