Coordinator Of Residence Life & Maintenance Technician

The Coordinator of Residence Life & Maintenance Technician serves as a vital dual-function leader within our Richfield residential community. This role is designed for a versatile professional who possesses both the emotional intelligence to manage student relationships and the technical skill to maintain a high-quality physical environment. This unique role is the steward of building infrastructure (diagnosing repairs, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring the safety and functionality of all residential units) and a community advocate (mentoring student residents, resolving interpersonal conflicts, and responding to emergencies with a calm, authoritative presence).

Typically splitting time between these rolls 50/50 depending on demand and time of year. Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate degree, at least 2 years of Residence Life or housing management experience, as well as a minimum of 2 years of construction, maintenance, or handyman experience.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinator Duties (50%)
• Community Development:
  Oversee the Residence Life community on the Richfield campus and ensure the mission and objectives of the ORL are being maintained.
• Residence Life & Student Support Community Mediation:
  Facilitate roommate mediations and resolve interpersonal conflicts within the residential halls.
• Policy Enforcement:
  Monitor residential areas to ensure compliance with the Student Code of Conduct and housing policies; document and report violations. Addressing residential conduct when needed to correct behavior.
• Duty Rotation:
  Serve in an "On-Call" rotation to respond to urgent student crises or facility emergencies.
• Resident and RA Mentorship:
  Act as a resource for students, providing guidance on campus life, academic success, and personal well-being.
• Move-In/Move-Out Coordination:
  Lead the administrative and physical logistics of resident transitions, including key distribution and room condition reports.
• Training:
  Assist in the hiring and training of Resident Assistants through support of main training efforts of the ORL, holding weekly staff meetings, and assisting with the Residence Life leadership class lessons.
• Maintenance Technician (50%)
• Facilities Maintenance & Repair Work Order Fulfillment:
  Respond to and resolve daily maintenance requests, including basic plumbing (unclogging drains, fixing leaks) and minor electrical work (replacing ballasts, outlets, or switches).
• Carpentry & Patching:
  Perform drywall repairs, painting, and furniture assembly or repair within resident rooms and common areas.
• Appliance & Equipment Maintenance:
  Diagnose and perform minor repairs on residential appliances and equipment (microwaves, fridges, laundry units, water heaters, etc.).
• Facility Audits:
  Perform comprehensive "Building Walks" to identify and proactively address wear and tear and assess safety times (lighting, extinguishers, etc.).
• Inventory Management:
  Maintain a stock of maintenance supplies (light bulbs, hardware, paint) and place orders within a set budget.
• Contractor Liaison:
  Escort and supervise external vendors (e.g., HVAC technicians, pest control) when specialized repairs are required.
• Seasonal & Strategic Projects Summer Turnaround:
  Execute a high-volume "turn" schedule between semesters, ensuring every unit is deep-cleaned and repaired for new residents.
• Capital Improvement Support:
  Assist the Facilities Director in identifying long-term needs, such as flooring replacements or common area upgrades.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Previous experience in Residence Life or housing management, knowledge of eRezLife, Maxient, and banner software preferred. Microsoft Office Suite, Title IX policies, ADA Accommodations, housing policies and standard operating procedures, current hot topics within residence life and Utah Fair Housing Rights.
• Skills:
  
  Computer typing skills and ability to use and understand housing software. Presentation making and presenting, staff management, supervision, conflict mediation, critical thinking, & problem-solving handyman/maintenance/construction experience in plumbing, appliance repair, and knowledge of custodial practices/procedures.
