General Job Description

This position is responsible for providing maintenance services to the Cold Mill, primarily regarding issues involving mechanical problems. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, planning, and overseeing the maintenance performed in the assigned areas. Additionally, the role requires work on scheduled work orders and downtime work, including Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Action work orders.

Essential Job Functions
  • Performs inspections, consults with operations, and checks downtime reports to stay current on any maintenance issues or problems in the assigned areas.
  • Maintains an up-to-date list of all maintenance issues in the assigned areas and works with the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Group Leader, and outside contractors to schedule and complete work promptly based on urgency.
  • Collaborates with the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor and Engineer on projects and upgrades in the assigned areas, which may involve the equipment manufacturer or other outside companies.
  • Ensures all necessary spare parts are stocked for the assigned areas, coordinating with the equipment manufacturer or other external parties.
  • Keeps the assigned areas clean and free from accumulated trash or used parts, scheduling housekeeping work as needed.
  • Repairs or replaces defective or damaged components affecting any of the Hot Mill equipment, identifying the required parts, retrieving them from spares, and installing them.
  • Completes work as assigned on maintenance work orders, which may include electrical, mechanical, or automation maintenance performed during downtime or while machines are running.
  • Fills out any information that needs to be passed on to the rest of mechanical maintenance.
  • Completes PM check sheets where required.
  • Performs any miscellaneous jobs assigned verbally or in writing by the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, or Hot Mill Manager.
  • Substitutes for other Mechanical Maintenance Technicians or Days Technicians during shift changes as required.
  • Acts as the first point of contact during off‑hours for major problems and equipment breakdowns.
  • Physical requirements include lifting at least 50 pounds, climbing ladders, twisting, bending, stooping, and working in narrow or confined areas.

  • Minimum Education, Skills and Experience
    • Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
    • Two years of industrial experience and/or a technical degree in a related field.
    Physical Abilities Required
    • Mobility throughout the plant.
    • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
    • Frequent use of hands for technical tasks.
    • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.
    • Visual ability with or without correction.
    • Communication abilities.
    Health and Safety
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Follow company safety rules.
  • Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the supervisor or manager immediately.
  • Use or wear the equipment, protective devices, or clothing required, including:
    • Safety shoes
    • Safety glasses
    • Hearing protection
    • Hard hat
    • Respirators (must be clean shaven for compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations)
    • Fire retardant clothing
    • Acid PPE
  • Report any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations or company policy to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead, or Supervisor.
  • Follow all lock‑out‑tag‑out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
  • Follow all environmental policies and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
