Utility Maintenance Specialist
All applications received during the recruitment period will be forwarded to the hiring department for review and consideration. Open Until Filled. Repairs and maintains wastewater pump stations, water towers, and other water/wastewater facilities.
Examples Of Duties• Inspects, maintains and repairs sewer pumping stations, facilities, water storage tanks, valves, and related equipment.
• Maintains pumps, valves, blowers, filters, screens, emergency motors, generators, and other equipment.
• Adjusts, repairs, and replaces malfunctioning parts such as bearings, gauges, seats, and packing.
• Records and tracks pump amp and volt readings and water tank pressure.
• Ensures remote pump stations are functioning properly.
• Performs electrical and mechanical checks and resolves problems.
• Operates vehicles and equipment.
• Assist with utility line works as required.
• Performs related tasks as required. Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience• High School diploma or equivalent with at least 7-years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possess or obtain a Virginia Waterworks Operations License (Class V or higher) within 18 months of employment, and must maintain a Virginia Waterworks Operations License during the course of employment.
• Possess or obtain a Virginia Commercial Drivers License (Class B or higher) within 18 months of employment, and must maintain a Virginia Commercial Drivers License during the course of employment.
• Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening and criminal background check
Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentThe work requires physical exertion such as walking over rough or difficult terrain; recurring standing, stooping, climbing or walking; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing between 25 and 75 pounds and may require the occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 74 pounds. The work may require specific physical characteristic and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, and dexterity.
The work environment involves extremely high risks with exposure to potentially life threatening situations or unusual environmental stress which requires a full range of safety and other precautions, but in some cases, these precautions cannot prevent injury, illness, or possibly death.

Paid Sick Leave
- All full-time employees earn (1¼) days of paid sick leave for each calendar month of employment and is accumulated without limit.
Compensatory Leave
- Non-Exempt employees may accumulate compensatory leave only for overtime worked which is authorized prior to the performance of such work. Compensatory leave for nonexempt employees is voluntary but in no instance may exceed 120 hours of accumulated leave. All hours in excess of 120 hours will be compensated on the same basis as approved overtime.
