Twin Lakes State Park is accepting applications for a Maintenance Ranger position.
Job Summary:The Maintenance Ranger is responsible for performing recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks essential to the upkeep and operation of Virginia State Park facilities, grounds, and equipment.
KeyDuties and Responsibilities:
- Clean and maintain bathhouses, day-use restrooms, campsites, any and all other facilities.
- Mow grass, trim weeds,and perform other general grounds keeping tasks.
- Remove leaves, trash, and litter from various areas throughout the park.
- Perform basic maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Work requires standing, bending and regular outdoor activity in varying conditions.
- Assist in additional maintenance and operational tasks assigned by supervisors.
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
- Must be willing and capable of working in a variety of outdoor conditions.
- General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies.
- Ability to perform routine cleaning, maintenance tasks, and other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and masonry.
- Experience in grounds keeping or equipment maintenance
- Experience working in parks or a similar setting.
Background Check:
Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
Employment Eligibility:Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
Driver’s License Requirement:A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
Work Requirements:Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

- DCR classified, retired, and wage staff (after six months of service), are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through
Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. - Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt st stays only receive a 25% discount.
