Pocahontas State Park is accepting applications for the Maintenance Ranger position.

Job Summary:

Pocahontas State Park is seeking dependable and motivated applicants that are comfortable working independently to fill the Maintenance Ranger position. This individual performs recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and housekeeping of Virginia State Park facilities. Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning bathhouses, restrooms, cabins, and meeting facilities; mowing grass; weed eating; leaf litter raking/removal; trash, and litter removal.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain restrooms, bathhouses, campsites, rental cabins, and other facilities.
  • Mow grass and perform general grounds keeping tasks.
  • Remove leaves, trash, and litter from park areas.
  • Perform basicmaintenanceon vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Position requires standing, bending, and working in the outdoor elements.
  • Assist with additionalmaintenanceand operational tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Applicant must be18 years old at start date.
  • Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.

Additional Considerations:

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • General knowledge of the use of common hand tools, power tools or cleaning supplies.
  • Experience in grounds care, janitorial, light construction, or equipment maintenance.
  • Experience working in parks or in a similar environment.

Special Instructions:

  • Background Check: DCR is committed to second chance hiring and inclusivity. Employment in all Virginia State Parks positions is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal history background check.
  • Employment Eligibility: Selected candidates must complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. DCR participates in E-Verify.
  • Driver’s License Requirement: A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.
  • Work Requirements: Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

    • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins, and yurts are included; one-night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
