Position: Maintenance Worker II (Sanitation)

Under limited supervision, provides site maintenance for the Refuse and Recycling Centers and HHW collection. The position will also be trained to fill in as a roll off driver when needed. Reports to Lead Maintenance Worker (Sanitation-HHW/ Site Supervisor).

  • Collects, handles and prepares HHW for Disposal;
  • Oversees community service workers and work release labor force for the collection of litter and HHW;
  • Provides maintenance to Refuse and Recycling Centers including pressure washing, painting, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Provides site clean-up;
  • Fills in for employees on leave as needed;
  • Fills in for roll off drivers on leave as needed;
  • Provides assistance for special events (i.e., county fair);
  • Provides assistance with emergency disaster work;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to his/her work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Very heavy work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the use of fingers, balancing, climbing, crouching, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • One (1) year of related work experience;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • 40-Hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Training/Certification within six (6) months of appointment; and
  • Driver's License valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia but Class B Commercial license preferred and must be attained within six (6) months of appointment.

Employees will either be deemed essential personnel and provide services that must continue regardless of or pursuant to a state of emergency or will be deemed nonessential personnel that will be required to report to work in an emergency if they receive an assignment to shelter duty or other duty.
