James River State Park is seeking applications for the Housekeeping Ranger position.
The primary focus of this position includes proper and prompt cleaning of cabins, restrooms, campground bathhouses and other park structures, efficient turnover of overnight facilities before check-in time, and the ability to work independently. This position will be responsible for inventorying cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest. The Housekeeping Ranger perform slight maintenance and cleaning tasks necessary to operate state park facilities.
- Must be 17 years old, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must and be willing to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Cleaning & supervisory experience.
For all positions, experience is not required, but is preferred. We provide on the job training. Weekends and holiday work required. Employees may be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies, or on a non-recurring basis. Seasonal summer jobs can be an outstanding first step toward a lasting career with the park service.
There are no health benefits or paid vacation leave associated with the job. Employees are limited to working no more than 1500 hours in 12 months from May 1 to April 30.
A valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.

- Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
- Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
- Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a two-night minimum. Bunkhouses, camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
