Under the general supervision of the shift supervisor, an employee in this position performs general non‑criminal enforcement duties in support of the patrol division. Duties performed are of minimal to average difficulty and include routine enforcement of ordinance violations concerning parking and animal control, completing reports on non‑injury accidents on private property, non‑criminal fingerprinting and other duties consistent with non‑criminal enforcement work.
PRINCIPLEDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Some knowledge of State and local laws.
- General knowledge of police department functions and procedures.
- Ability to learn use of office equipment, radio systems, animal control equipment, fingerprint equipment and in‑squad computer.
- Ability to make independent judgments based on accepted policy.
- Ability to establish a work schedule by setting priorities for projects.
- Ability to interact effectively with the public in conveying general legal guidelines and expectations to residents and business people in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Become proficient in basic records functions in order to provide relief for records clerk.
- Walk, sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Communicate effectively verbally and non‑verbally.
- Operate required equipment.
- Perform required tasks and functions.
- Provide assistance to citizens and co-workers in distress.
- Comply with established safe work rules and the special instructions of the supervisor.
- Report all accidents and injuries immediately.
- Submit recommendations for safety and efficiency, as well as report defective equipment and unsafe conditions.
- Use safety equipment provided for personal use in performing daily assignments.
- Only operate equipment trained and authorized to operate.
- Provide public protection from unsafe conditions and hazards resulting from village work operations.
- Participate in special safety activities, as designated.
The position involves regular and irregular shift work that is necessary to support and enhance the customary delivery of police services 24 hours per day, seven days per week and 52 weeks per year (weekends and holidays included). Work shifts are normally four to eight hours in duration, but may be extended in the event of an emergency, disaster, heavy workload or special events.

- Personal danger, includes but not limited to dangerous or vicious animals, hazards associated with traffic control and natural and man‑made disaster.
- Motor vehicles reasonably and safely, sometimes for lengthy periods of time.
- Basic office equipment including but not limited to typewriters, telephones, computer terminals, etc.
- Basic tools and equipment necessary to perform job tasks and functions including but not limited to two‑way radios, slim jims, first aid equipment, fire extinguisher, fingerprinting equipment, etc.
- College coursework in law enforcement or a related field.
- Work experience in one or more of the areas of responsibility, i.e., animal control, parking enforcement, etc.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Possession of valid driver's license or ability to obtain one prior to starting.
- Ability to read and write the English language fluently.
