POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Position Overview:

A Handler at the HWSTF will pick up bulk and non-bulk hazardous waste at satellite areas on NAWS China Lake and will maintain the HWSTF itself, focusing on proper storage of hazardous waste and housekeeping of the facility. Some data entry into HW database will be necessary. Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Complete hazardous waster pick ups at customer and satellite sites
  • Properly store hazardous waste when received from the customer
  • Assist with supply and materials inventory
  • Inspect vehicle and weight handling equipment before daily operation
  • Provide support to HWSTF customers
  • Participate in all HW training
  • Assist with daily and weekly inspections of HWSTF facility and satellite collection areas
  • Assist with Navy and regulatory agency inspections
  • Complete all post-shipment documentation
  • Complete requests for acceptance, pick up, confirmation of requests, receiving of and processing of hazardous waster at the HWSTF and satellite areas
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance, if necessary
  • Report all issues with the equipment to the HWSTF Manager
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND

EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma
  • Two years of experience in HW handling
  • Completion of 24 or 40 hour HAZWOPR course (OSHA 29 CFR )
  • Current medical examination will be required
  • Preferred, but not initially required:
  • CA commercial Class B driver’s license with Hazardous Material, Tanker and Air Brakes endorsement
