Overview
Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the part-time (up to 20 hours), non-exempt position of Teacher Assistant in the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). This position reports to the Director of the Early Childhood Education Center and is located in River Forest, IL. The Teacher Assistant collaborates with the Lead Teacher to support the development of children in a nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and Christ-centered environment.
Responsibilities- Foster the development of each child spiritually, socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally.
- Collaborate with the head teacher to support curriculum by implementing plans outlined by the head teacher as directed.
- Prepare and assist with the physical preparations and clean-up of classroom activities as outlined in each classroom’s duties.
- Maintain responsibility for the health and safety of the children.
- Promote the Center’s mission and vision.
- Maintain appropriate contact with and provide support for parents and families.
- Serve as a center-wide substitute as needed.
- Assist with monitoring and supervising the work and attendance of lab students, observation/methods students, and student teachers as needed.
- Follow standards set by DCFS, NLSA, and NAEYC.
- Minimum Experience
Required:
1 year of experience as an assistant teacher in an Early Childhood Education Center (preferred). - Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED required;
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. - Skill Sets:
Strong administrative skills, including related computer and technology skills; superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; strong attention to detail; ability to organize and prioritize tasks; ability to work with and cooperate with supervisory staff at all levels; ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented at conferences and/or professional literature.
Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Benefit eligibility is dependent on hours worked per week: 20 hours.
