POSITION: Graduate Assistant for TRIO Student Support Services
DEPARTMENT: Student Success and Engagement
REPORTS TO: Director of TRIO Student Support Services
HOURS NEEDED PER WEEK: Up to 20 hours
PAYMENT: $1360 monthly stipend OR tuition remission (up to 6 credit hours for fall 2026 and 6 credit hours for spring 2027)
AVAILABLE TO: Students enrolled in a graduate-level program at an accredited institution
DATES OF EMPLOYMENT (APPROXIMATE): August 1, 2026 - July 1, 2027. Please note that this is a yearlong commitment.
PRIMARY PURPOSE / POSITION SUMMARYThe TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program is a grant-funded program that supports students through a holistic approach as they navigate their time at Dominican University. The Graduate Assistant (GA) for TRIO SSS will provide direct assistance to the program through advising, programming, and holistic student support. The GA will be an essential member of the TRIO SSS team, serving in an academic-year appointment of approximately 20 hours per week and reporting to the Director of TRIO.
In addition, the GA will build relationships and collaborate with various university departments to support student success.

JOB COMPONENTS / PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Manage a caseload of TRIO students; monitor academic progress and conduct academic coaching meetings. These coaching meetings include assistance with time management, goal setting, and learning strategies.
- Assist with new student recruitment by conducting intake meetings to determine program eligibility and recommending candidates for selection.
- Support the design and implementation of TRIO events, including room selection, flyer distribution, and event management.
- Help coordinate at least 1 TRIO workshop/event per semester.
- Help manage social media platforms by creating content, taking photos at events, posting program updates, and promoting student engagement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate student interactions using Blumen records management software.
- Represent TRIO in a positive and professional manner and maintain knowledge of available services and resources for program participants.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly TRIO events.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the position
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field
- Currently enrolled (or acceptance for enrollment) in a graduate program at least part-time during the regular academic year
- Preference will be given to candidates with strong knowledge of first-generation college student strengths and challenges
- Period of employment: a twelve‑month term beginning August 1st, 2026 – July 1, 2027, with the possibility of continued employment
