Adjunct Faculty, Physical Sciences Department (Fall 2026)
The Chemistry Division of the Physical Sciences Department at Dominican University is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty Member to teach the following courses:
- CHEM 253:
Organic Chemistry I lecture - CHEM 253L:
Organic Chemistry I laboratory - CHEM 254:
Organic Chemistry II lecture - CHEM 254L:
Organic Chemistry II laboratory
CHEM 253/254 is a sophomore level chemistry course for a variety of STEM majors. These courses are offered in-person. The ideal candidate will be based in the Chicagoland area to work with students in a face-to-face environment. The adjunct faculty member may work with senior economic faculty to examine current textbooks, teaching materials, and software specific to this course.
Essential Instructional Responsibilities:
- Adhering to the university policies, procedures, and university calendar with respect to reporting information to university offices.
- Administering student evaluation and timely and accurately submit the required paperwork related to instruction, including grades and course evaluations.
- Grading weekly assignments, responding to student emails and phone calls promptly, and providing feedback in a timely manner.
- Preparing course materials, including writing test questions and delivering assignments appropriate to the subject matter.
- Meeting with students and hosting office hours.
- Adhering to the goals and objectives of the course, as guided by the Department Chair.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Master's degree in a chemistry-related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of demonstrated teaching experience (experience with Canvas Learning Management System preferred)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Compensation:
Adjunct faculty are compensated on a per-course basis Salary Range: $3,000 – $3,500 (per 3-credit course) FLSA Status:
Exempt, Part-time (Adjunct Faculty)
