Position: Graduate Assistant for Women’s Leadership Initiative

Graduate Assistant For Women's Leadership Initiative

The Graduate Assistant (GA) of the Women's Leadership Initiative will provide direct assistance to the Assistant Director of TRIO with the development, coordination, execution and evaluation of the Women's Leadership Initiative within the department. The GA serves in an academic year appointment working approximately 20 hours per week and reports to the Assistant Director of TRIO. In addition, the GA will build relationships and collaborate with various university departments.

Through an anti-deficit and solution-based approach rooted in cultural assets, the GA serves as a mentor and model of leadership through the following responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning of a one-day Leadership Symposium that will occur in the Fall semester
  • Development of a comprehensive leadership program using theory and application for eligible scholarship recipients
  • Serve as a mentor to a small cohort of second year undergraduate students in their leadership development
  • Facilitate monthly mentor/mentee check ins with WLI cohort
  • Logistics and planning of monthly leadership workshops
  • Assist in the facilitation and execution of monthly leadership workshops
  • Establish and maintain connections with other departments, while collaborating on joint efforts
  • Perform other duties as requested, delegated or assigned

Basic competencies include the ability to articulate vision and exhibit effective leadership, strong organizational and time management skills, strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to thrive in a growing environment, demonstrate close attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Qualifications include a ten-month term with a flexible start date beginning September 2026–June 2027, with the possibility of continued employment. Currently enrolled (or acceptance for enrollment) in a graduate program at least part-time during the regular academic year. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 1 year experience working in leadership programs or participation in a leadership experience. Experience with and/or knowledge of leadership development and program planning for students from marginalized communities.
