The McGreal Center at Dominican University seeks to preserve the history of the Dominican family across the United States with two major initiatives. The first is an archive of Dominican history with an emphasis on collaborative organizations, communities of women, and Dominican spirituality and scholarship. Second is Sacred Spaces, a digital archive of Dominican Family architectural spaces and other culturally and religiously significant spaces in the Chicago area.
The undergraduate assistant will assist in all areas of the Sacred Spaces project including researching sites of interest, outreach and community relationship development, onsite digital capture, tour creation, and digital asset management. The assistant will join a small team at the McGreal Center for Dominican Historical Studies who all collaborate on planning, troubleshooting, and undertaking scholarly research for the project.
- Assist the Sacred Spaces team in capturing digital footage of interiors and exteriors of sacred spaces sites using drones, panorama cameras, and phone cameras
- Create digital tours of spaces using Pano2VR software
- Conduct research about individual spaces and communities
- Assist the Sacred Spaces facilitator in identifying new sites of interest, corresponding with representatives of communities
- Assist the archives assistant with selecting content for permanent retention, describing in Archives Space , and ingesting into Preservica
- Demonstrated interest in digital exhibitions or archives, digital humanities, and/or digital curation
- Willingness to learn and troubleshoot complex VR software, camera equipment, and drone photography
- Comfort with troubleshooting, using software documentation to address issues
- Experience in photography, film, programming, architecture, or library/museum work preferred
- Interest in architecture, Chicago history, or religious communities preferred

- $15/hour
