Position Title

Police Dispatcher

Essential Function

Receives incoming telephone calls, persons who walk-in and police radio communication. Screens, directs and dispatches and documents communications.

Compensation and Hours

Rate of pay is $19.50 per hour, 20 to 28 hours per week, must work weekends and holidays.

Additional Requirements

Must possess a Valid Driver’s License.
Official transcripts required prior to employment (if applicable);
Recommended candidate for hire will be subject to pre-employment screenings including a polygraph test, drug screening, and thorough background check.

Qualifications

Education
:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Skills
:

  • Ability to use computer efficiently
  • Clear speaking voice and ability to interact with people
  • Ability to prioritize and multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment
  • Ability to write and type at a professional level in regards to English grammar and spelling
  • Remain calm in high‑stressed situations
  • Communicate effectively with the general public, co‑workers, and emergency service agencies both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be able to maintain confidentiality
Responsibilities
  • Answer incoming emergency and routine assistance calls for the Police Department.
  • Independently assess need and urgency of requests and situations and dispatch emergency response personnel including law enforcement personnel and mutual aide personnel to incident/accident scenes.
  • Receive and accurately relay/transcribe information, messages and requests for the Communications Center.
  • Enter data and information into Triton College Police Department and State computer databases.
  • Operate radio and telecommunication systems including UHF & VHF mobile and portable radios, fax machines, and telephones.
  • Maintain knowledge of current communication policies and procedures and state, national and local dispatch standards.
  • Participate in on‑going training.
  • Answer telephone requests for information, performs emergency warning notifications, perform clerical and general office functions, and provide court testimony as required.
  • Monitor burglar and fire alarms, and notify appropriate person/agency as required, operates LEADS system:
    Enters stolen vehicles/items, missing persons and other information, maintains logs, record and file as required.
  • Operate closed circuit television systems and numerous interior and exterior controllable cameras throughout campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
