Food Sanitation and Safety Adjunct Instructor

Rate of pay: $33.00 per contact hour. Official transcripts required prior to employment. Recommended candidate will be subject to pre‑employment screenings. Triton College is an AA/EOE.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree.
Certification:
Serv Safe Food Protection Manager, Serv Safe Instructor for Food Safety Manager training, and registered Serv Safe Proctor for print certification exams.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree of science in Food Science, Food Technology, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, or Public Health.

Responsibilities

Utilizes active learning and student success strategies in the classroom.

Keeps up‑to‑date in teaching area/discipline, including licenses, training or certificates as applicable.

Teaches to pre‑approved course objectives.

Instructs students in the facts and skills pertaining to assigned course(s).

Considers general and special needs of all students, and when necessary, seeks additional help or refers students to other college support services.

Electronically submits syllabi to appropriate department or division office.

Creates, updates, and distributes course syllabus every semester according to format required by Board policy.

Submits midterm and final grade reports and attendance records, and other reports, within three business days after last day of section.

Informs department coordinator and assistant dean in writing of any pending problems that may affect department, school or college.

Keeps students informed of course progress verbally and electronically as appropriate.

Informs students of relevant educational and occupational opportunities.

Commits best resources to success of all students by recognizing, understanding and embracing diversity.

Conducts classes as scheduled and approved by dean’s office.

Cooperates with department chairperson/program coordinator, department members and administrators in curriculum development, preparation and update of course syllabi, course outlines, selection of textbooks and assessment activities.

Attends regular department/program meetings and college meetings as available.

Utilizes appropriate written and oral communication skills.

Understands and appropriately utilizes all instructional technology available in classrooms and labs.

Maintains classroom/lab equipment in good order and, when needed, inventory assigned equipment and supplies.

Recommends library books and instructional materials and places reading materials on reserve in the library when needed.

Follows Student Handbook policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as requested or assigned, restricted to those normally performed by adjunct faculty for the current semester.
