Position Title

ESL Instructor – Adjunct Faculty, Adult Education Department, Triton College.

Employment Details

Rate of pay: $48.42 per hour.

Type:
Adjunct Faculty.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience with ESL, literacy, or adult education; experience with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition theories.
  • Technology and digital literacy proficiency.
Responsibilities
  • Utilize active learning and student success strategies in the classroom.
  • Stay current in teaching area/discipline, including licenses, training or certificates as applicable.
  • Teach to pre-approved course objectives.
  • Instruct students in the facts and skills pertaining to the assigned course(s).
  • Consider general and special needs of all students and refer students to support services as necessary.
  • Electronically submit syllabi to the appropriate department or division office.
  • Create, update, and distribute a course syllabus each semester according to Board policy.
  • Prepare and deliver final examinations unless pre-approved by Dean.
  • Submit mid-term enrollment verification forms and final grade reports, notices, attendance records, and other required reports within fourteen days.
  • Notify department chairperson, program coordinator, and dean in writing of any pending problem that may adversely affect the department, school, or college.
  • Keep students informed of course progress verbally and electronically.
  • Inform students about relevant educational and occupational opportunities.
  • Commit resources to student success, recognizing and embracing diversity.
  • Conduct classes as scheduled and approved by the dean’s office.
  • Cooperate with department chairs, program coordinators, and administrators on curriculum development, syllabus preparation, textbook selection, and assessment activities.
  • Attend regular department/program meetings and college meetings as available.
  • Hold office hours as outlined in the course syllabus.
  • Use appropriate written and oral communication skills.
  • Utilize instructional technology available in classrooms and labs.
  • Maintain classroom and lab equipment in good order and keep inventory of assigned equipment and supplies.
  • Recommend library books and other instructional materials; place reading materials on reserve in the library.
  • Follow Student Handbook policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned that are typical for adjunct faculty during the semester.
