Police Officer
The Chief of Police leads and manages all law enforcement and public safety operations for Triton College. This role ensures the safety and security of students, employees, and campus visitors while demonstrating a climate of trust, inclusion, and accountability. The Chief promotes a service‑oriented and community‑based approach to campus safety while upholding the highest standards of professional conduct, integrity, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
The Chief is responsible for the entire operation of the police department and for the efficient operation and general supervision of all of its functions. Knowledge of contemporary police and security management procedures and techniques, with emphasis on the welfare of all persons on the campus and the entire facility, is required.
Compensation:
Annual base salary of $76,340 with full benefits package. Official transcripts are required prior to employment, and the successful candidate will be subject to pre‑employment screenings. Triton College is an equal‑opportunity employer.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required;
Master’s degree preferred. Completion of a recognized police executive leadership program (e.g., FBI National Academy, Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command) is highly desirable. The Police Chief must have successfully completed and passed a certified Police “Front Line Supervisors” examination or equivalent supervisory qualification as recognized by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. - Experience: Must be qualified as an Illinois Law Enforcement Officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Minimum of 10 years of patrol experience, 5 years of police supervisory experience and 5 years of police administration experience (which may run concurrently).
- Knowledge: Operational and functional knowledge of modern law‑enforcement procedures and security functions; policing practices; higher‑education campus law enforcement;
Clery Act;
Title IX; FERPA; emergency response coordination; current public‑safety technologies (surveillance systems, emergency alerts, incident‑reporting software, body‑worn‑camera software, electronic ticketing). - Skills: Administrative supervision experience; outstanding written and oral communication skills, especially report writing; strong leadership of multiple aspects of police staffing (patrol, front line, dispatch, command).
