Elementary School Psychologist

The Elementary School Psychologist promotes student academic achievement, social-emotional wellness, and behavioral success by providing comprehensive psychological services in accordance with the Illinois School Code, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Illinois Administrative Code, Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) regulations, and Board of Education policies. The School Psychologist collaborates with students, families, educators, administrators, and community agencies to support student learning and ensure equitable access to educational opportunities.

Qualifications:

• Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Psychologist endorsement issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
• Meets all qualifications established by ISBE and the Illinois School Code.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws governing special education, including IDEA, Section 504, and the Illinois Administrative Code.
• Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), evidence-based instructional and behavioral interventions, and crisis prevention.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze data and use assessment results to improve student outcomes.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive psycho educational evaluations to determine eligibility for special education and related services.
• Select, administer, score, and interpret standardized assessments, observations, interviews, and other evaluation tools consistent with professional standards.
• Prepare written evaluation reports that meet all federal and state requirements.
• Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary teams and Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams.
• Assist in developing measurable educational goals and recommendations based on evaluation data.
• Ensure evaluations, reevaluations, and eligibility determinations are completed within state and federal timelines.
• Participate in Child Find activities as required by IDEA and Illinois School Code.
• Consult with teachers, administrators, and parents regarding instructional, behavioral, academic, and social-emotional interventions.
• Assist in the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), including universal screening, progress monitoring, and data-based decision making.
• Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• Support students experiencing behavioral, emotional, or mental health concerns through consultation, intervention planning, and referral to appropriate services.
• Provide crisis intervention services and assist school personnel in responding to emergency situations affecting students or staff.
• Collaborate with school counselors, social workers, special education staff, administrators, and outside agencies to coordinate services.
• Maintain accurate student records and documentation in compliance with district procedures, FERPA, IDEA, Section 504, ISBE regulations, and Board policy.
• Assist in promoting a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
• Participate in professional learning activities and maintain all required licensure and professional credentials.
• Serve as a resource to staff regarding child development, learning differences, behavior management, trauma-informed practices, and mental health supports.
• Utilize district technology systems to maintain records, prepare reports, and communicate effectively.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee that are consistent with the responsibilities of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of psychological assessment principles and best practices.
• Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
• Knowledge of Illinois School Code, IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and applicable ISBE regulations.
• Ability to analyze assessment data and communicate findings effectively.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, parents, staff, and community partners.
• Proficiency with educational technology and student information systems.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout school facilities.
• Ability to lift and carry instructional or assessment materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to perform duties requiring visual and auditory acuity.

Working Conditions:

• School-based environment with occasional travel between district buildings.
• Regular interaction with students, families, staff, and community agencies.
• May be required to respond to student behavioral or safety emergencies.
