Overview
The City of Riverside Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Helicopter Mechanic and Senior Helicopter Mechanic. The department is looking to fill one position in either classification based on experience. This position is posted continuously with a first review date of February 26, 2026, at 8am, and may close any time without prior notice.
Helicopter Mechanic – Annual Salary Range: $84,108.00 – $.
Senior Helicopter Mechanic – Annual Salary Range: $97,344.00 – $.
Responsibilities- Helicopter Mechanic: perform journey-level maintenance, inspection and repair, both scheduled and unscheduled, of City-owned helicopters and related equipment in accordance with FAA rules and regulations, aircraft manufacturer guidelines, and Police Department policies and procedures.
- Senior Helicopter Mechanic: lead and perform skilled, technical work in scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of City-owned helicopters and related equipment; provide lead direction over lower-level mechanics; schedule and estimate work; work with vendors and contractors; maintain logbooks and maintenance records; monitor inventory of equipment, parts, and materials; and supervise others as assigned.
- Report to the Senior Aircraft Mechanic and the Aviation Unit Supervisor (Chief Pilot).
- Assist in other related duties as required.
- Helicopter Mechanic duties may include: journey-level maintenance and repair of helicopters, engines, transmission, rotor systems, gearboxes, control assemblies, instrumentation, electrical and related systems; participate in maintenance check flights; use testing equipment; document work in logbooks; assist with inventory and fuel system provisions.
- Senior Helicopter Mechanic duties may include: lead maintenance projects, supervise and inspect work by subordinate mechanics, prepare budgets and procurement input, coordinate with vendors, maintain records, and lead check flights.
- Maintain and operate required testing and diagnostic equipment; ensure compliance with manufacturer manuals, FAA Airworthiness Directives, and internal policies.
Helicopter Mechanic
Education:
High School graduation or equivalent (GED). Completion of a factory helicopter/aircraft maintenance-training course is highly desirable.
Experience:
Three years of journey-level experience in inspection, repair, and maintenance of helicopters, aircraft, and related equipment. Highly desired qualification: experience with AS350.
Senior Helicopter Mechanic
Education:
High School graduation or equivalent (GED). Completion of a factory helicopter/aircraft maintenance training course is highly desirable.
Experience:
Four years of journey-level experience in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of helicopters, aircraft, and related equipment.
Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license.
- Possession of a valid class “C” California Driver’s License.
- Possession of a valid FAA Inspection Authorization is highly desirable.
- Successful completion of a polygraph and background investigation.
Work is performed in various environmental conditions, indoors and out, with exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, fumes, grease and oils, machinery, aircraft and moving parts, odors, and dust. Physical demands include bending, stooping, and frequent heavy lifting up to 50 pounds. Must have normal vision and hearing (with or without correction).
