Job Summary
The County of Riverside’s Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) seeks a Support Services Technician to work in the Facilities Support Division, Facilities Warehouse & Special Projects Unit in Riverside. The position requires travel throughout the County, including desert regions, to support day‑to‑day operations of DPSS facilities.
Responsibilities- Assist with inventorying warehouse and workshop supplies, equipment, and furniture.
- Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move pallets, load, and unload vendor trucks.
- Inspect received inventory for damage and quantity, comparing against requisitions, invoices, and freight bills.
- Provide building access and act as a liaison with vendors, contractors, and property management.
- Monitors County buildings and equipment, identifying needed repairs or maintenance.
- Performs routine cleaning of vents, air ducts, and minor repairs requiring limited tradesman knowledge.
- Services and repairs doors, gate locks, latches, and minor electrical items such as light bulbs and wall receptacles.
- Moves, secures, and assembles furniture and equipment (e.g., desks, chairs, bookcases).
- Performs minor painting tasks using a brush or roller.
- Handles courier routes, inventory carts, mail delivery, financial paperwork, lab samples, and biohazard mails.
- Maintains a clean and orderly storeroom, packages items for shipment, fills requisitions, and reports low‑stock items to supervisors.
- Provides maintenance and support for the department pager system, telephones, and radio transmitters/receivers.
- Monitors vehicle condition, logs maintenance, and coordinates with vendors for servicing.
- Assists in monitoring facility safety and coordinates with the Safety Division to ensure compliance with County and State regulations.
- Three to four years of experience in building maintenance and minor repair work.
- Experience in a warehouse environment, including receiving, storing, and issuing supplies and materials.
- Knowledge of inventory control, basic tools, power tools, and basic techniques for receiving, storing, and issuing supplies.
- Ability to perform semi‑skilled maintenance in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, building plant operations, and minor vehicle maintenance.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications; ability to read, write, and speak English at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Proficient in basic arithmetical computations and maintaining accurate records.
