Position: Support Services Technician (Thousand Palms)

The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The County of Riverside's Animal Services Department has an opportunity for a Support Services Technician (SST) who will be assigned to the Facility Services Operations division in Thousand Palms.

The Support Services Technician (SST) will assist with warehouse inventory and asset management, facility and custodial support, vendor coordination, equipment operation, emergency response logistics, and a variety of maintenance and trade‑related duties.

The SST will ensure that the warehouse's physical inventory matches the appropriate database, identify causes of discrepancies, maintain adequate inventory levels to minimize outages, monitor inventory management reports, maintain proper location of assets and asset tags, unload/unbox new shipments and deliveries, enter information into the inventory control system, identify obsolete inventory, and determine removal methods. Experience with hand tools is necessary to perform a variety of minor office, mechanical, and maintenance work.

Additional duties, as assigned, may include daily custodial services.

Competitive candidates will have extensive experience interacting with vendors; professional hands‑on experience with walk‑behind machines designed to strip floor coatings and dual‑tank floor/carpet cleaning; experience managing flow of assets into and out of warehouse inventory; proficiency operating a forklift. Specialized trade skillsets such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical are highly desired.

Candidates with the ability to coordinate supply runs, transport and distribute emergency resources, assist with the setup and breakdown of emergency response equipment, and construct temporary animal housing or shelter facilities during emergency situations are highly desired.

Work schedule:

5/40. Schedule is subject to change based on the department's staffing needs. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor County buildings and equipment, identify needed repairs or maintenance.
  • Perform routine cleaning of vents and air ducts.
  • Execute minor repairs requiring limited tradesman knowledge; prepare and close work orders.
  • Service and repair doors, gate locks, and latches.
  • Move and secure furniture and equipment.
  • Determine supplies needs and place orders.
  • Perform minor painting tasks with brush or roller.
  • Conduct minor electrical repairs (light bulbs, wall receptacles, custodial equipment).
  • Hang pictures, bulletin boards, signs as necessary.
  • Receive, load, and unload supplies and equipment from vendor trucks; operate forklift to move pallets; inspect for damage and match inventory against requisitions, invoices, or freight bills.
  • Handle courier routes, inventory, supply carts to par level, deliver and receive mail, financial paperwork, lab samples, and biohazard mail.
  • Store stock according to established system; keep storeroom orderly and clean; package items to ship; fill requisitions; report low stock to supervisors.
  • Assemble equipment such as desks, chairs, bookcases.
  • Provide maintenance and support to the department pager system.
  • Ensure telephone operations, prepare work and repair orders.
  • Oversee installations, testing, and routine repair of radio transmitters, receivers, phones, pagers.
  • Monitor cell phone bills and recommend service changes.
  • Maintain logs and database of supply inventory, equipment, vehicle mileage, cellular phones/pagers, purchase orders.
  • Ensure vehicles are cleaned, maintained, and supplied; perform minor vehicle maintenance as required; contact vendors for vehicle servicing.
  • Monitor facility safety; coordinate with the Safety Division to ensure compliance with County and State regulations.
Qualifications

Experience: Three to four years of experience in building maintenance and minor repair work.
