The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. The Riverside County Regional Park and Open‑Space District is hiring a Park Maintenance Worker for the Habitat and Open Space Management division at the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area, located at 11401 Arlington Ave., Riverside, CA 92505. The selected candidate may be required to travel to various work locations based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform wide‑range maintenance duties in a wildlands setting, including string trimmer and tractor mowing, weed abatement, cleanup of illegally dumped refuse, and removal of unhoused encampments.
  • Fabricate, install, and repair gates and fence lines; weeding and assistance with restoration projects.
  • Handle road grading, graffiti removal, and equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, skid steers, dump trucks, mowers, and string trimmers.
  • Assist with public contact duties, answering questions of park users and informing them of park rules and regulations.
  • Perform minor plumbing, electrical, welding, and carpentry work, including repair of faucets, sprinkler heads, electrical switches, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Maintain and repair vehicles, including minor mechanical work.
  • Install, repair, and maintain fencing, gates, property barriers, and signage.
Qualifications
  • Experience with electric and gas‑powered hand tools such as string trimmers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, water pumps, drills, saws, and grinders.
  • Experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment; handling HAZMAT materials is a plus.
  • Competitive candidates will possess:
    • Welding experience for fencing repairs
    • Roadwork maintenance experience
    • Operating tractors, skid steers, dump trucks, mowers, string trimmers, T‑post drivers, and other grounds and landscape maintenance equipment
    • Experience with hazardous waste handling (e.g., ABOP materials)
    • Installing signs and repairing or installing fences and gates
    • Proficient map interpretation and/or GPS experience
  • Two years of experience in grounds or building maintenance, debris removal, ranch work, plumbing, carpentry, metal fabrication, electrical, heating and cooling, landscape gardening, habitat restoration, or light‑to‑medium tractor maintenance. College level course credit may substitute up to one year of experience.
  • Or two years as a Park Attendant with the Riverside County Regional Park and Open‑Space District.
  • Knowledge of common maintenance tools, equipment, and materials; basic vehicle preventive maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions, write simple reports, and perform routine maintenance and minor construction projects.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
License and

Physical Requirements

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is required at the time of application. The incumbent will be required to drive a county vehicle to and from park facilities as well as within the park.

Physical Requirements: The position requires walking long distances, bending, squatting, and standing for extended periods. Candidates must be able to work outdoors in any weather, including summer heat over 100°F and winter temperatures as low as 25°F. Moving heavy materials (trash bags, concrete bags, grass seed bags, etc.) is part of the job. The selected candidate must be able to perform these duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work

Schedule

5 days, 40 hours a week, 7 am to 3:30 pm Tuesday – Saturday. Days off are Sunday and Monday. Hours may vary depending on department needs and special events. Must be willing to work holidays and some evening events.
