Duties

Position Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services and the School Principal, this position consists of teaching one half-day (mornings) as an early elementary special education Resource teacher, and one-half day (afternoons) as a Preschool Teacher (through the Preschool for All grant).

QUALIFICATIONS/

CERTIFICATIONS:

* Professional Educator License (PEL) with Early Childhood Endorsement

* Early Childhood Special Education Approval

* English as a Second Language and/or Bilingual Endorsement (or coursework towards ESL endorsement)

Job Responsibilities

* Demonstrate understanding of child development.

* Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for 3-5 year old students, and Kindergarten students.

* Coordinate, communicate with, and effectively lead preschool team members (two full-time paraprofessionals, multiple related service providers)

* Coordinate, communicate with, and effectively lead Kindergarten special education team members (consisting as needed of paraprofessionals, general education teachers, EL teachers, and related service providers)

* Conduct large group, small group, and individual learning experiences within the preschool classroom.

* Differentiate instruction based on student needs and learning goals.

* Prepare and maintain a high quality, safe, linguistically/culturally sensitive and engaging learning environment. Preschool classroom environment will be monitored periodically by the state, using the ECERS-3.

* Incorporate technology into instructional and assessment practices.

* Utilize formal and informal assessment systems to collect student data, monitor progress and inform instructional decisions.

* Engage in reflective practices to develop plans for student goals and improving classroom practices.

* Participate in development and implementation of IEP goals.

* Develop partnerships with families through daily communication, conferences and parent-child activities.

* Conducts assessments, testing and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues, and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.

* Participates in IEP meetings and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEP) for students.

* Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEP's and behavior management plans.

* Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations and institutions, including state and federal authorities as needed.

* Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services.

* Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.

* Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

* Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities, school and program meetings and trainings.

* Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

* Works directly with general education teachers to provide aligned instruction, including co-teaching

* Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

* Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities, school and program meetings and trainings.

Additional Duties

* Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Student Services, Principal, or other administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
