The Maintenance Assistant supports the overall upkeep and safety of the facility by ensuring the building, grounds, and equipment are clean, attractive, and in good working order. This role reports to the Plant Supervisor or Operations Manager and plays a key part in maintaining state, federal, and Life Safety compliance
.
- Perform regular and scheduled safety inspections, including weekly walk-throughs of high-risk areas
- Complete all Life Safety and Preventative Maintenance tasks in TELS to meet federal, state, local, and corporate compliance requirements
- Prepare and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and documentation
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts, and materials used
- Keep required logs and documentation in accordance with Life Safety Manual and OSHA standards, including (but not limited to):
- Fire alarm and sprinkler inspections
- Emergency generator and fire extinguisher logs
- Water temperatures and hardness
- Fire drills, disaster drills, and safety certifications
- Elevator, boiler, and service contract documentation
- Conduct daily rounds of the facility to identify and prioritize maintenance needs
- Manage and complete work orders submitted electronically through TELS
- Maintain and repair electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems
- Inspect and replace light bulbs, exit lights, and circuit breakers
- Monitor temperatures in resident rooms, coolers, and freezers
- Assist with preparing resident rooms for admissions and discharges
- Ensure adequate inventory of maintenance supplies
- Report serious safety issues or equipment failures to leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Working knowledge of basic maintenance, housekeeping, and laundry procedures
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in long-term care preferred, but not required
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and maintain accurate documentation
