Position DescriptionThe custodian is responsible for keeping the assigned area of the school clean, safe, functional and secure. Custodian workers must maintain the school building in a state of operational excellence. This position is full‑time (40 hours per week) and includes health and dental coverage, pension, and paid holidays/vacation. The hours of this position are Monday - Friday 3:30 pm – Midnight. Summer hours are 6:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Thursday.
Responsibilities/ Essential Functions
- Reports to the Director of Facilities.
- Maintain clean and neat storage areas; supplies and equipment in the area of the building assigned.
- Maintain good sanitary conditions of facilities.
- Stock restrooms with necessary paper products.
- Notify the director concerning the need for repairs.
- Maintain surrounding premises as needed.
- Act as backup to clean and service unassigned areas as needed.
- On‑call availability for emergencies.
- Request cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
- Wash windows and walls.
- Scrub, wax and buff floors periodically.
- Vacuum hallways, offices and all other areas.
- Move and set up furniture.
- Change light bulbs.
- Keep locker doors cleaned.
- Clean café, buff floor.
- Dust around windows, doors, pictures, ledges, and bookcases.
- Keep the staff lounge clean – sink, refrigerator, tables and microwaves.
- Assist with the removal of snow/ice prior to school events and on non‑school days.
- Some weekends/holidays as needed.
- Hours will be determined according to the school calendar.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Requires the ability to do a wide variety of moderate physical activity both indoors and outdoors.
- Physically active for long periods.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects and materials up to 50 pounds.
- Repeating the same motions.
- Kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling.
- Bending, stretching, twisting or reaching out.
- Climbing stairs.
- Performing minor ladder work.
Education and Experience
- High school graduate or GED.
- Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb and reach, able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Verbal skills to communicate with co‑workers, school staff and others.
- Self‑motivated and prompt in performing tasks.
- Willingness to support the mission of Gabriel Richard Catholic High School and a Catholic Education.
- High level of discretion, confidentiality, and integrity.
- Ability to be reached by phone.
- Willing to provide authorization for a criminal background check.
- Willing to participate in a Protecting God’s Children Workshop.
