Overview
Hepaco, a Clean Harbors Company, in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Field Services Technician I to join our safety-conscious team. This role will be active in the field and responsible for tasks associated with hazardous waste clean-up, site remediation, equipment decontamination and handling of hazardous materials. Travel, on-call and emergency response are part of the role. Hourly range: $19.00–$21.00.
Responsibilities- Ensure health and safety is the number one goal by following policies and processes and always acting in a safe manner.
- Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting and pulling heavy objects.
- Operate light and heavy equipment, handle various hand tools and powered industrial tools, and work with vibration-producing tools.
- Wear and properly use a variety of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators and protective gear in multiple configurations.
- Work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work in atmospheres and locations with potential exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic or corrosive.
- Work in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, including lifting in areas of low clearance.
- Work at elevations including from ladders and scaffolding.
- Assist in field sampling activities and calibration of meters.
- Climb ladders, scaffolding and into and out of trucks, tanks and other containers.
- Work extended (>8 hours) time periods when required.
- Attend all compliance and safety update meetings.
- Inspect drums for container integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Safely load and unload hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
- Conduct waste stream sampling and profiling as necessary.
- Follow all local, provincial (state) and federal compliance regulations and rules.
- Safely operate vehicles in accordance with DOT, local/state and federal requirements.
- Observe all corporate operating guidelines and environmental health and safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be on call for emergency response on a rotating basis (every other week).
- Engage in site remediation, equipment decontamination, and handling of hazardous materials as required.
- Reliable transportation.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to perform physical functions per responsibilities.
- This position includes emergency response responsibilities; on-call requirements and possible weekend/holiday work; emergency responses may extend beyond 8 hours up to 12–24 hours.
- Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical as required by position.
- Per OSHA respiratory protection standards, meet facial hair requirements for positions requiring respirators.
- Previous relevant labor experience.
