Position DetailsEnvironmental Services Technician (Housekeeper)

Environmental Services Manager
Hours of Availability:
Full Time; nonexempt (hourly). Must be flexible to work a rotating schedule any day of the week.
Compensation: $15.91/hour

- Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills to execute instructions, keep others informed, and exhibit professionalism.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to assist with multiple daily assignments and special projects.
- Ambitious to exceed expectations.
- A basic knowledge of general cleaning procedures.
- Working knowledge of janitorial and related equipment and chemicals.
- Ability to perform general maintenance of equipment utilized in the department.
- Exhibits great attention to detail to maintain cleanliness of the Mission.
- Willingness to exceed “Mission standard” expectations.
- Ability to lead for engagement of residential and community volunteers to complete daily scheduled tasks and special custodial projects.
- Expected to cover custodial duties for the entire main campus as assigned.
Responsible for upholding the health and safety of the Rescue Mission of Roanoke’s campus and occupants by ensuring proper sanitation and a clean internal and external environment. Complete tasks consistently and timely, with or without volunteers from the community or residential programs. Maintain and distribute cleaning supplies at all custodian closets located throughout the main campus. Communicate verbally or electronically the status of all custodial assignments to the appropriate ministries.
Tasks- Infection Control – sanitize & clean contact surfaces; special attention to high‑traffic/common areas.
- Floor Care – vacuum carpets; sweep/mop floors; finish/buff floors.
- Restroom Care – sanitize, clean, and restock restrooms (includes walls & floors).
- Window Care – clean windows and glass surfaces.
- Room Care – detailing of rooms to include dusting, windows & floor care.
- Trash Collection/Disposal – campus‑wide.
- Maintain cleanliness of reusable equipment such as wet and dry mop heads, rags, etc.
- Enforce infection control procedures and proper disposal of biohazardous materials and medical waste from surgery and exam rooms.
Develop and implement high‑impact volunteer opportunities that enhance organizational outcomes and volunteer satisfaction.
Physical DemandsProlonged periods of standing, stooping, twisting, turning, pushing, pulling. Lift up to 35 pounds. Frequent contact with hazardous cleaning materials. Exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels depending on activity. Frequent movement and communication required.
