Ballyhack Golf Club is seeking a highly motivated leader to join our management team.
Located in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Roanoke, Virginia, Ballyhack offers breathtaking views and a world-class golf experience. Construction of the course began in 2007 and was completed in 2009. Designed by renowned golf course architect Lester George, Ballyhack sits on approximately 200 acres and delivers a true Scottish links-style golf experience.
The course features:
- 37 acres of 007 bentgrass fairways
- 3.5 acres of 007 bentgrass tees
- 4.5 acres of Tyee bentgrass greens
- Kentucky bluegrass/turf-type tall fescue roughs
- Extensive fine fescue native areas throughout the property
Ballyhack’s state-of-the-art agronomy facility was constructed in 2018 and officially opened in January 2019, reflecting the club’s continued commitment to excellence in course conditions and operations.
Currently ranked #210 in the United States by Golf Digest for 2025 and recognized as the #5 course in Virginia, Ballyhack has established itself as one of the premier private golf destinations in the country.
In 2016, Ballyhack became part of the Dormie Network and has since continued investing in infrastructure and member experience throughout the property. The club currently offers 60 guest accommodations across 15 cottages and serves a large national membership base.
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to join a passionate team dedicated to delivering exceptional golf and hospitality experiences.
WHAT YOU’LL DO- Performs routine maintenance checks to identify repairs necessary for proper operation of the mowing equipment, utility vehicles, small tractors and loaders.
- Completes repairs and routine preventative maintenance in a timely manner.
- Grind or backlap reels as needed.
- Operates small engine equipment, golf carts, small tractors and loaders.
- Trains operators on the proper use of the equipment in a safe manner.
- Opportunity to hire, train and develop assistant equipment technicians.
- Maintains the records associated with the maintenance and repair of the equipment.
- Maintains a clean and safe work area.
- Collaborates with the Director of Facilities when needed.
- Adheres to all Dormie Network’s policies and procedures.
- Must be well groomed at all times while on the property.
- Must be well mannered, display a smile at all times, greet guests, members, and fellow employees when encountered, show appreciation to the guests and the members, and demonstrate a willingness to help guests and members at all times.
- Perform scheduled routine preventive maintenance on all equipment.
- Check all reel mowers after every use and ensure they are cutting with the desired quality and at the proper height of cut.
- Work proactively with the agronomy team to minimize equipment downtime.
- Communicate with the Superintendent, Assistants, or Director of Agronomy regarding equipment or shop issues and problems.
- Perform routine checks of equipment while it is in use on the course.
- Has a we before me mentality, understanding that teamwork is imperative to the success of the agronomy department.
- Self-driven and performs well in an environment where innovation is encouraged and micromanagement is discouraged.
- Takes pride in their field and performs their work with high level attention to detail and thoroughness.
- Has working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.
- Ability to operate and maintain tools and machines associated with the upkeep of the golf course.
- Skilled in the use of variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.
- Has working knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions while repairing equipment.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.
- A strong team player who understands teamwork is imperative to the success of the agronomy department.
- Communicates effectively and professionally across all levels of the organization and maintain records.
- Can adapt quickly in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
