Position Summary
The Equipment Maintenance Manager is responsible for the leadership, financial performance, and operational effectiveness of Branch Civil's equipment maintenance organization. This role provides leadership and oversight of shop operations, preventive maintenance programs, work order management processes, maintenance budgeting, outside repair activities, vendor performance, and shop personnel development. The Equipment Maintenance Manager works closely with Equipment Operations leadership to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, control maintenance costs, enhance workflow efficiency, and establish consistent operational standards across all maintenance functions.
This position reports to the Vice President of Equipment Operations.
- Provide leadership and oversight for daily shop operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive maintenance activities.
- Establish and sustain daily operating rhythms including shop communication, work planning and accountability reviews.
- Establish and reinforce consistent operating standards, expectations, and accountability throughout shop operations.
- Partner with shop supervisors to improve communication, execution, and follow-through on maintenance priorities.
- Monitor shop performance and implement process improvements that enhance productivity and service levels.
- Support operational planning to align maintenance resources with project and fleet demands.
- Provide oversight and direction for the Equipment Operations preventive maintenance (PM) program.
- Improve preventive maintenance planning, scheduling, compliance tracking, and execution.
- Utilize preventive maintenance performance data to reduce equipment failures, improve planning, and maximize fleet availability.
- Develop and maintain key maintenance performance metrics, reviewing PM compliance to identify trends, remove barriers, and drive continuous improvement.
- Develop processes that improve maintenance consistency and extend equipment lifecycle performance.
- Partner with equipment leadership to establish maintenance standards and best practices.
- Oversee work order management processes to improve ownership, visibility, accountability, and completion rates.
- Develop and implement procedures for work intake, triage, prioritization, planning, and execution.
- Support implementation of estimated versus actual labor tracking and related performance metrics.
- Monitor work order aging and identify barriers impacting maintenance completion.
- Improve workflow processes to reduce equipment downtime and increase maintenance efficiency.
- Manage and oversee outside repair providers, service vendors, and maintenance contractors.
- Monitor repair quality, communication, turnaround times, and cost effectiveness.
- Evaluate repair performance and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve service delivery.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure outside repairs support operational needs and equipment availability.
- Assist with development of vendor performance expectations and accountability measures.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives that improve equipment reliability while reducing the total cost of ownership.
- Partner with Finance and Equipment Operations leadership during annual budgeting, capital planning, and financial forecasting activities.
- Develop and maintain maintenance cost reporting, forecasting, and financial performance metrics for Equipment Operations leadership.
- Evaluate repair versus replacement decisions using lifecycle cost analysis and return-on-investment principles.
- Monitor maintenance spending, outside repair costs, parts consumption, and labor expenses, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Review and approve maintenance-related expenditures, repair estimates, purchase requests, and vendor invoices to ensure accuracy, cost effectiveness, and compliance with company policies.
- Develop, monitor, and manage maintenance operating budgets while identifying opportunities to improve cost performance.
