Seasonal Laborer - Cemetery

An employee in this classification is responsible for routine maintenance duties related to the cemeteries. Employees employed within the Cemetery Division of the Clerk’s Department will be assigned to work in teams or independently throughout the City’s Cemeteries. Work is generally performed on day shifts (7:30am-4:00pm) but may occasionally include evenings, weekends. Employees in this position are integral to maintaining the beautiful grounds of the City of Rochester Hills while providing a positive experience for Rochester Hills residents and other patrons of the Cemeteries.

• Performs grounds maintenance, including lawn care, weed control, grave and lawn repairs, irrigation upkeep, pruning, tree and branch removal, and litter collection.
• Assists with cemetery operations, including funeral preparations, headstone and foundation installations, and maintaining the grave marker identification disc system.
• Completes custodial duties in the office and chapel, and supports general equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Contributes to seasonal tasks such as snow removal and election signage setup.
• Assists in administrative tasks, including auditing cemetery records, retrieving parts and fuel, and delivering mail to City Hall.
• Additional duties as assigned.

• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License with no more than four points currently on record.
• Acceptable Criminal History.
• Basic proficiency with office computers and related software.
• Previous experience with grounds maintenance or light equipment operation preferred.

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 70 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching.
