Location: City of Rochester

  • Starting Rate of Pay $ per hour

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under direction of Director, the technician is responsible for maintaining buildings and property in quality condition, across multiple sites, including residential and office environments. This role performs repairs and conducts preventive and routine maintenance on buildings, furniture, fixtures and equipment to ensure safety, function and compliance with company standards or health department guidelines.

Unless otherwise noted as non-driving, all facility workers are expected to know how to operate ODM fleet vehicles. The driver must have a clean driving record to be approved per insurance standards, which includes a check for DUI/DWI, history of a suspended license, and/or vehicular manslaughter. For a complete list of driving requirements, please contact  Fleet includes a box truck, a refrigerated van, 8- passenger and 12- passenger vans, and a pickup truck.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform all work orders as assigned by the Director or Supervisor, from start to completion.
  • Daily tasks may include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC troubleshooting.
  • Ensure premises, grounds, and equipment are well maintained, clean, and safe.
  • Respond to emergency situations after hours as needed (e.g., heating failure, water leaks, inclement weather) and share on-call responsibilities with the Director.
  • Administer approved procedures for task assignments, equipment use, safety, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
  • Perform snow and garbage removal, lawn mowing, and other grounds-related tasks.
  • Assemble, disassemble, and move office furniture as required.
  • Provide task oversight for volunteers and program students when assigned.
  • Conduct safety inspections and pursue the security of facilities and property.
  • Communicate effectively with the Director, staff, and outside vendors; keep leadership informed of progress and issues.
  • Ensure work orders are completed efficiently and accurately; maintain proper documentation.
  • Flexible to perform any building and grounds-related assignments across multiple properties.
  • Operate company fleet vehicles as needed; maintain a clean driving record per insurance requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Committed Christian with a commitment to and a passion for “restoring hope and changing lives”
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and guests
  • Safety conscious with a good knowledge of facility operation and general maintenance
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work well alone or with others, including volunteers and students
  • Skilled with power tools
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Meet and deal tactfully and courteously with donors, employees, volunteers, students, guests and vendors
  • Appropriately handles frequent changes, delays and unexpected events
  • Remain calm in a crisis or emergency situation
  • Able to read and write; and communicate via email
  • Must hold a current and valid New York State Driver’s License and be willing to authorize a driver’s record and background check
  • Physically fit, knowledge of safe handling and lifting techniques

EDUCATION/

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a GED
  • One year in building maintenance, carpentry, electrical, and/or plumbing required, more preferred
