• Completion of eighth grade plus one year paid full‑time or its part‑time equivalent experience in building cleaning work.

• High School Graduate (or possess GED)
• Three years paid full time experience in building cleaning and maintenance activities
• One year experience as building Custodian
• Currently holds Civil Service title of Head Custodian or is on the current list for Head Custodian
• Possesses Stationary Engineer 3rd Class Boiler Operator License
• One year experience in building cleaning work
• Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
• Ability to supervise and get along with others
• Daily attendance is expected

• Perform normal adjustments and routine service to equipment such as boilers, heating system, compressors, unit ventilators, fans, generators, chillers, and all custodial maintenance and grounds care equipment
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repair or facilitate required repairs to building structures, plumbing, electrical and ventilation systems, and operating equipment
• Responsible for outside grounds maintenance including lawn mowing, trimming grass, trees and shrubbery, flower beds maintenance, snow removal, and proper operation, repair, and reporting related to playground equipment
• Maintain inventory and procurement of custodial maintenance equipment, supplies and materials and is responsible for receipt of all incoming supplies and materials
• Train staff regarding proper cleaning techniques, equipment and material use and provides staff with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Assist in proper emergency evacuation procedures
• On call to return to the facility for any emergency (break‑ins, broken windows, fire alarms, etc.)
• Other duties as required

All new employees must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment through the NYSED before employment begins.
