Job Summary:
Reporting to the Property Manager, the Maintenance Specialist will support the maintenance, repairs, upkeep, and appearance of the camp buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment, and will provide housekeeping support as needed and for day‑off coverage for housekeeping staff at Camp Seneca Lake. The Specialist will also help demonstrate the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester and Camp Seneca Lake.
- Support the maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, equipment, vehicles, and roads through hands‑on work throughout the year.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance functions for the camp.
- Maintain availability and responsiveness for on‑call maintenance needs.
- Ensure property meets New York State Health Department and American Camping Association requirements.
- Keep facilities and grounds safe for campers and staff; maintain high cleanliness standards.
- Support the Assistant Director in opening/closing day luggage moving and logistics, including pick‑up and drop‑off luggage in Rochester.
- Assist the maintenance team in moving campers’ luggage within camp during drop‑off to appropriate villages.
- Attend required meetings or training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Represent a positive image of the CSL when interacting with campers, camp families, and the CSL/JCC staff.
- Effectively communicate with a diverse group of staff and campers.
- Utilize creativity and ingenuity to solve diverse maintenance tasks in an outdoor summer camp setting, often with limited budget.
- Demonstrate solid teamwork skills.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 2+ years of related experience or training.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with carpentry, electrical, or plumbing preferred.

Physical Demands- Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for extended periods of time.
- Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, grasping and twisting, climb or balance.

- Lift and/or move over 75 pounds on a repetitive basis.
- Use of computer keyboard.
- May handle chemicals as part of the daily operational duties.
- Remote locations and uneven terrain on camp property.
- Exposure to noise, dust, dirt.
- Exposure to critters (rodents, deer, etc.).
- Natural weather elements.
- Risk of electrical shock, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Ability to assist children and staff in an emergency.
