Building Maintenance, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Location: City of Rochester
Schedule: Monday‑Friday 9am-5pm
Building Maintenance/Repair Position (not a maintenance cleaning role)
Building maintenance/repair experience and a valid NYS Driver's license is required. The role is responsible for maintaining buildings and property in quality condition, performing repairs and conducting preventive and regular maintenance of buildings, furniture, fixtures and equipment.
Unless otherwise noted as non‑driving, all facility workers are expected to know how to operate ODM fleet vehicles. The driver must have a clean driving record to be approved per insurance standards, which includes a check for DUI/DWI, history of a suspended license, and/or vehicular manslaughter. Fleet includes a box truck, a refrigerated van, 8‑passenger and 12‑passenger vans, and a pickup truck.
Duties & Responsibilities- Performs all work orders as assigned by Director or Coordinator
- Ensures that premises and equipment are well‑maintained, clean and safe; inspects work of technicians and provides feedback to the director
- May be available after hours to respond to emergency situations pertaining to heating failure, water leaks, and inclement weather concerns and shares on‑call responsibilities with the director
- Administers approved procedures as it pertains to assignment of tasks, use of equipment, safety, preventative maintenance and repairs
- Ensures the efficient and prompt handling of all department work
- Performs from start to completion any and all facilities–related work orders
- Daily tasks may include, but are not limited to: general carpentry, remodeling, electrical, plumbing, painting, safety, locks, repair of any and all types of appliances & equipment typical to all residential & commercial facilities
- Ensures Mission grounds are well‑groomed and clean

- Safety conscious with a good knowledge of facility operation and general maintenance
- Must be a self‑starter, able to work well alone or with others, including volunteers and students
- Skilled with power tools
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
- Meet and deal tactfully and courteously with donors, employees, volunteers, students, guests, and vendors
- Appropriately handles frequent changes, delays and unexpected events
- Remains calm in a crisis or emergency situation
- Able to read and write; and communicate via email
- Must hold a current and valid New York State Driver's License and be willing to authorize a driver's record and background check
- Physically fit, knowledgeable of safe handling and lifting techniques
Salary: $19 - $20 per hour
