Primary PurposeEntry‑level technical position responsible for installation, operation, and repair of user equipment comprising the telecommunications network (micro‑processors, computer terminals, printers, and modems). Employees report directly to a senior staff member, travel to various departments for service, and perform related tasks as required.
Compensation / Pay Range$45,000

Essential Functions- Analyze malfunctions to determine the nature of the problem and whether a service call should be placed.
- Perform minor repairs on micro‑processors, terminals, printers, and modems as prescribed in vendor manuals.
- Arrange for replacement of all problem equipment.
- Install micro‑processors, computer terminals, and printers while conferring with an electrician.
- Maintain an inventory of computer equipment.
- Test micro‑processor functions, computer network communication signals, and resolve any signal quality problems.
- Attach connector to the computer coaxial cable when appropriate.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of computer operation and equipment usage.
- Knowledge of peripheral equipment operation.
- Basic electronics knowledge related to installation of user equipment.
- Ability to maintain records and keep an inventory of equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships.
- Skill in testing network communication signals and identifying problems.
- Willingness to travel to other departments and agencies.
- Initiative and good motor skills.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Competitive position under Monroe County Civil Service. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently possess the Monroe County Civil Service Title of Network Technician.
- Have held the Title of Network Technician within the last four years.
- Or appear on the current list of eligibles for the title of Network Technician as established and provided by the Monroe County Department of Human Resources and Civil Service. (Lists for other titles do not satisfy this requirement.)
- Or be hired as a Provisional Appointment until an eligible list can be established and a permanent appointment made.
