DUTIES
- Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing, such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables
- Prepares food by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring or breading; weighs, measures, and assembles ingredients for regular and modified menu items
- Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources; disassembles, cleans and assembles component parts and accessories, following safety procedures
- Follows established sanitation procedures when handling food and ensures that foods are stored at correct temperatures to prevent bacterial growth
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required
- Meet qualification, eligibility and background requirements for this position
- A one‑year probationary period may be required
- Complete an employment verification (E‑Verify) check
- Complete a minimum of 4 hours of initial food sanitation and safety training within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually
- Complete all pre‑employment checks in accordance with AR 215‑3, paragraph 2, including a medical examination
- Complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card if required for physical access to federally controlled facilities
- Work in kitchen areas that are well lit but often hot and noisy, exposing the employee to steam, fumes, odors, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk‑in refrigerators or freezers
- Stand on tile floors and be subject to burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors
- Work involves continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending
- Be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance or lifting devices
- Resumes must be two pages (or less) and must clearly demonstrate experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities relevant to this position
- Work experience preparing foods and cooking simple food and short orders in a cafeteria, restaurant, or mess
- Demonstrated work behavior: neatness and good grooming, dependability, ability to work under pressure
- Resume must reflect the qualifications stated in the announcement to receive credit for any experience
- This position does not have an education qualification requirement
- Follows the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system; employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week, whichever is greater
- Regular full‑time, regular part‑time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays
- Employees may also be eligible for extra pay if the majority of scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM
- Non‑foreign overseas allowances, cost‑of‑living adjustments, and other differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility
- Access may require a REAL ‑compliant driver’s license/ (marked with a star) or an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) from WA, MI, MN, NY, or VT
