OverviewUnder the general direction of the Custodial Zone Leader, custodians are responsible for the internal appearance of our buildings. They must be careful and thorough in cleaning and tidying the premises, preventing vandalism, and maintaining a clean environment. The ideal candidate will have previous custodial experience, be familiar with chemicals and equipment, and possess the physical endurance to cover a large space while maintaining a keen eye for detail.
EssentialJob Duties
- Cleans and maintains assigned areas on campus according to established school standards, including vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, emptying trash, cleaning bathroom areas, window and door cleaning, snow and leaf removal, and other basic duties.
- Performs periodic deep cleaning duties such as polishing and buffing floors, shampooing carpets, stripping and waxing floors, window washing, and removing or moving furniture.
- Sets up and tears down designated spaces as needed, including tables, chairs, and serving equipment.
- Works cooperatively with other staff to accomplish tasks in the designated area and adapts to changing requests and supervisory instructions.
- Identifies issues that need additional attention and communicates these needs to supervisory staff; assists other staff members as requested to keep campus cleanliness at the highest level.
- Accomplishes all duties in accordance with established safety principles and guidelines.
- Collaborates with other facilities staff on special projects, including cleaning Transitional Living Areas, campus-owned housing, and preparing campus buildings for special events.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a coach and mentor for student workers.
- 1-3 years of cleaning and/or maintenance experience in a team-based environment.
- Excellent service orientation and ability to relate to a diverse campus population including co‑workers, faculty members, students, and visitors.
- Willingness and ability to work with a variety of personalities and adapt to changing campus needs, including various work locations.
- Skill in using a computer to communicate and complete work tasks; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work to high productivity standards with limited supervision.
- Ability to utilize a radio for frequent communication, including the ability to hear and speak clearly.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

This job operates in a varied environment, including office, classroom, residential living areas, and some outdoor work. Limited exposure to extreme heat and cold weather conditions is expected.
Physical Demands- Must be able to lift 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to push and pull heavy machinery frequently.
- Requires frequent climbing of stairs and occasional work on ladders.
- Ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods of time.
- Must possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment.
- May work outdoors for snow removal in winter months and experience extreme temperatures in non‑air‑conditioned spaces in summer.
Full‑time position with a 40‑hour work week. Standard days and hours:
Monday–Friday 5‑6 a.m. through 1‑2 p.m. Overtime may be required on rare occasions with supervisor approval.
Little to no travel is expected for this position.
