Position Summary

Ensures the Rockford Park District's Atwood Park is safe, clean, and enjoyable through proper maintenance and operation.

Essential Functions
  • Establish and maintain a high level of citizen confidence.
  • Demonstrate the principles of One Team, One Goal in daily interactions with staff and guests.
  • Support and ensure a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging exists in all areas of the Park District.
  • Provide a safe and comfortable environment for Rockford Park District employees and customers.
  • Set up tables and chairs for weekend rentals and ensure furniture and rooms are clean before and after rentals.
  • Act as weekend rental and Saturday public hours host.
  • Perform simple maintenance duties to the buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment according to required specifications for safety and appearance.
  • Perform frequent routine safety checks on buildings, grounds, and equipment; file safety reports as required.
  • Perform routine cleaning of building floors, windows, restrooms, carpets, trash removal, grounds, sidewalks, trash pickup and snow removal.
  • Ensure that all work performed is conducted safely and timely, adhering to standards of cleanliness and effective equipment utilization.
  • Perform simple repairs to buildings, equipment, machinery, and vehicles as assigned according to Park District general maintenance procedures.
  • Follow preventive maintenance schedule and perform preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned.
  • Operate Park District equipment including vehicles and mowers safely and effectively as required.
  • Operate trimmers, mowers, saws, drills and other hand tools safely and effectively as required.
  • Be responsible for the opening and closing of the facilities.
  • Assist with delivery of supplies to various facilities.
  • Provide quality customer service to all patrons, guests, and other District employees.
Requirements
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to provide customers with expert care, sensitive consideration and efficient service.
  • Good communication skills, including expressive, written, and receptive.
  • Basic understanding of custodial and maintenance duties.
  • Must be available on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Ability to follow direction from Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ability to problem‑solve in a variety of situations.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (can be obtained through the Rockford Park District).
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements
  • Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently.
  • Exerting in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Perform moderately physically intensive tasks, including climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, and substantial movements of wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Good far, near, and mid‑range vision.
  • Exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, and equipment hazards; noise level usually loud.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals (training will be provided).
