CUSTODIAN - Evergreen Pool

Job Description

This is an evergreen job posting for external candidates and current, part-time employees. Posting will be used to collect applications for future full-time Custodian I vacancies within Custodial Services. Candidates may be contacted as positions become available.

• Perform duties in the care and cleaning of buildings (e.g., garages, offices, classrooms, entry ways, and restrooms)
• Clean floors (sweep, mop, wax); empty trash receptacles; dust furniture; clean windows and perform other cleaning related duties
• May sweep and shovel snow
• May order cleaning supplies and equipment repairs as needed
• May be assigned to work in areas requiring special use of disinfectants, cleaning techniques and sanitation procedures or use of special equipment (e.g., large sweeper, power washers)
• May prepare rooms for meetings by setting up chairs, tables and necessary equipment
• May perform building security duties such as locking and unlocking doors, checking windows, turning lights on or off, and reporting items that need repair to superiors
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Ability to read and write
• A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions
• Ability on a daily basis to:
  • Lift, carry and set down objects of moderate weight (25‑50 lbs.)
  • Grasp broom and mop handles
  • Work around dust and cleaning materials
  • Climb stairs, step stools and ladders
• Physical strength, coordination and stamina sufficient to perform assigned duties

• One year of general maintenance and custodial experience
• Some knowledge of methods for cleaning equipment and buildings; mechanical ability for minor repair of equipment

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $15.50‑$16.65 hourly. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.

This is an evergreen posting used to maintain a pool of qualified applicants for future full-time Custodian I vacancies. Applicants who meet minimum qualifications may be contacted as openings arise throughout the year. When an actual vacancy becomes available, a separate job posting will be created and will include the required five business day union bid period for eligible internal applicants.

Being in the evergreen pool does not replace applying to specific openings. To be considered for a particular vacancy, applicants must also apply to the actual job posting at that time.
