About the RoleYou will be responsible for providing leadership to a team of estimators, along with oversight of multiple active estimates, having an understanding of risk, and the ability to review and make recommendations on estimates. You must have a thorough understanding of large and complex tenant work, ground-up construction, healthcare, and light industrial, and an ongoing desire to understand trends in the industry such as green/environmental, smart city, connected construction, modular construction, and how they impact pricing, bidding, and future growth.
Responsibilities- Oversee analysis of past performance on projects and establish estimating standards for all future estimates based on such analysis.
- Assist in the oversight of the historical cost database and bid management and estimating software.
- Ensures the maintenance of data on construction and material cost trends affecting project costs to project management and estimating teams.
- Assigns responsibilities for estimating team on each project.
- Reviews project plans and specifications and coordinates with the team to confirm complete scope.
- Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude.
- Manages and coordinates the entire estimating department, the people, software, and other resources used to perform the estimating functions.
- Develop and train estimators not only in the process of estimating but also on how to improve profitability.
- Educates Estimators and Project Management on issues that impact profitability (both positively and negatively).
- Represent estimating department to executive team and ownership.
- Ability to effectively construct estimate structure to meet a request for proposal (RFP).
- Analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economical alternative.
- Assigns estimating team and their responsibilities on each project.
- Actively participates in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
- Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with the team to confirm the complete scope.
- Reviews constructability issues with project team staff.
- Leads pre-construction teams and develops estimates off conceptual ideas or drawings.
- Develop and implement all department standards and procedures.
- Keeps track of the latest estimating technology and industry-related techniques through continued education.
- Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
- Attend onsite and/or virtual pre-bid meetings.
- Network with potential clients and vendors.
- Maintain strong understanding of all facets of the company and tasks required.
- Represent the Estimating Department for project reviews to improve current and future bids.
- College degree in Construction Management/Engineering preferred or related experience
- 10+ years’ experience with commercial, medical, municipal, or industrial construction estimating required
- Proven track record of estimating and winning projects
- Working knowledge of financials and how the various areas impact profitability
- Expansive knowledge of bidding, estimating, and construction management platforms
Compensation will be aligned with the individual’s depth of career experience and leadership capability, within an anticipated range of $140,000–$170,000, plus bonus eligibility and benefits.
