Candidate will be responsible for authoring/editing technical documents detailing highly complex, state-of-the-art products within Electronic Warfare and Targeting. Technical documents include, but are not limited to:
Manuals, Job Guides, General Equipment/Systems, Fault Isolation, Fault Reporting, and Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB). Candidates will have specific knowledge and experience writing to Military Standards and Specifications and have responsibility for creating a wide variety of content, to include Theory of Operation, Maintenance, Operation, Troubleshooting, Block Diagrams, and Wiring Diagrams. Ability to create and present training content. The applicant must possess the ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical specifications and instructions to both operators and maintainers of the equipment in a classroom environment as required by contract.
The candidate will acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of peer’s documentation.
The candidate shall present writing samples and be prepared to present a short (3-5 slides) presentation succinctly describing a topic of their own choice.
Occasional domestic travel up to ~10% for business meetings will be required throughout the year.
This position will be full-time, on-site at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.
This position is contingent upon Funding/Contract award Special access program requiring and maintaining the necessary Government clearance per customers’ requirements prior to start.
Basic Qualifications for Staff Technical Writer:- Bachelors' degree and 12 years related experience or Master's and 10 year related experience
- Demonstrated competency in desktop and publishing applications, should include the following:
Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) - Demonstrated competency with Adobe Acrobat Suite
- Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or Corel Designer Suite
- Ability to interpret simple schematic circuits, proofing/editing, print production and fine attention to detail
- U.S. Citizen
- Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret Clearance with additional customer specified clearance prior to start
- Demonstrated competency in at least one of the following:
Frame Maker, XML, or Arbortext Editor - Experience with Mil Standards (Air Force, Navy, or Army)

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
