Application Engineer

Insight Global is seeking an Applications Engineer to join a globally leading automation company based in Rolling Meadows, IL. This role is ideal for someone with a strong engineering foundation—mechanical, electrical, or controls—who enjoys applying technical expertise in a customer‑facing environment. While commercially aligned, this is a deeply technical position focused on understanding customer systems, developing accurate service proposals and RFQs, and delivering technically sound aftermarket solutions rather than traditional sales.

The Applications Engineer partners closely with regional and divisional service leaders to assess requirements, design value‑driven service offerings, and support customer engagements, leveraging hands‑on knowledge of controls software, PLC programming, and automation systems. Success in this role depends on an engineering mindset, strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to translate technical needs into executable solutions, supported by disciplined opportunity management through Salesforce and close collaboration across service, engineering, and operations teams.

• 2-3+ years of experience in a technical service sales/parts environment within automation, automotive, or equivalent industry
• Strong technical expertise and background in engineering (mechanical, electrical, controls, industrial, chemical, etc)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, strong customer service, presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to consistently achieve performance targets and accurately document customer information

• Controls software, PLC Programming experience
