As a Power Electronics Engineer - Level 3 or Level 4 located in Rolling Meadows, IL, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.
This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. You will become part of Northrop Grumman's Electrical Design & Technology group, working with other engineers to develop state-of-the-art power supplies and power products for space applications. This team supports our Electronics and Payloads Engineering Business Unit. The Principal/Sr. Principal Power Design Engineer will design and develop power conversion architectures using the latest technologies from Linear Technology, Texas Instruments, and other integrated circuit device manufacturers.
Power Design Engineers work with system, sub-system, and hardware engineers to develop requirements, architect new circuit design topologies, and printed wiring board layouts. Designs are verified through circuit simulation, laboratory verification, and formal qualification to electrical and mechanical environmental requirements, electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) requirements and EMI/EMC compliance requirements. Design support is continuous from requirements definition through integration and test;
and maintenance of design documentation and configuration management is required throughout the product life-cycle. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Perform power supply design, including simulation and analysis, schematic creation, component selection, and printed wiring board layout
* Perform technical trade studies
* Perform worst case analysis and component stress analysis
* Provide manufacturing support for your hardware builds
* Develop Acceptance Test Procedures and perform first piece hardware checkout/testing
* Work in a lab environment and support hardware production
* Lead team of engineers through the design, simulation, and testing of power supplies

4. Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
* Bachelor's degree with 5 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 3 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
* No clearance required to start
* Power Supply circuit design experience, including schematic capture through test and integration
* Experience utilizing schematic capture tools such as Mentor Graphics/Expedition, Altium, or similar software
* Power electronic simulation experience, such as LTSpice/SPICE/PSPICE, Saber, SIMPLIS, Simulink, or similar circuit simulation software
* Hands-on prototyping and debug experience testing complex power systems, including various switch-mode power electronic topologies and linear regulators
* Ability to translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements, design, and test specifications
* Proven skills include team leadership, mentoring others, communicating with all levels of an organization internally and externally, being adaptable, creative, collaborative, and comfortable working independently and enjoys solving difficult problems Basic Qualifications for Level 4:
* Bachelor's degree with 8 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 6 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 4 years of professional experience.
