Power Design Engineer
Our client is currently seeking a Power Design Engineer. The Power Design Engineer will support full life‑cycle product development for advanced defense and aerospace systems, including Radio Frequency Electronic Warfare (RFEW), Infrared Countermeasures (IRCM), imaging systems, and real‑time embedded control platforms. This role is responsible for the design, development, integration, testing, and qualification of power conversion architectures and power electronics solutions from concept through production.
Responsibilities- Design and develop high‑efficiency switch‑mode power supply architectures for embedded processing, image processing, RF, and Receiver/Exciter applications.
- Design power conversion circuits and subsystem‑level hardware utilizing both custom and commercial‑off‑the‑shelf (COTS) components.
- Develop power solutions supporting applications ranging from milliwatt‑level circuits to high‑power systems exceeding 10kW.
- Collaborate with systems, hardware, and subsystem engineers to define requirements, architecture, and design solutions.
- Create schematics, perform component selection, and support printed wiring board (PWB) layout activities.
- Perform circuit simulations using SPICE‑based tools and validate designs through laboratory testing and debugging.
- Design and support high‑frequency magnetics including transformers, coupled inductors, EMI chokes, and common‑mode filters.
- Conduct testing, integration, and qualification activities to ensure compliance with electrical, mechanical, environmental, and EMI/EMC requirements.
- Ensure designs meet customer and military standards, including MIL‑STD‑704, MIL‑STD‑461, MIL‑STD‑464, DO‑160, and TEMPEST requirements.
- Support hardware integration, verification, and troubleshooting throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Maintain design documentation, configuration management, revision control, and engineering change processes.
- Lead technical tasks and collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver innovative power solutions.
- Support production, sustainment, and fielded systems as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of two (2) years of power electronics or power supply design experience; advanced degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Experience designing switch‑mode power supplies from schematic capture through test and system integration.
- Hands‑on experience with power electronics prototyping, debugging, and laboratory verification.
- Ability to translate system‑level requirements into hardware requirements, design specifications, and test plans.
- Experience working with multiple switch‑mode converter topologies and linear regulator designs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation, configuration management, and revision control systems such as DOORS, Clear Case, and Clear Quest.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance.
- This position is contingent upon security clearance eligibility, program award, and funding.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power Electronics or Power Conversion.
- Additional experience designing advanced power conversion architectures for aerospace or defense applications.
- Recent experience using Cadence Concept, Allegro, LTspice, or similar design and simulation tools.
- Experience designing high‑frequency magnetics, EMI filters, and related power conditioning circuitry.
- Knowledge of Electronic Warfare (EW), RF, embedded processing, or aerospace systems.
- Current active Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience supporting military, aerospace, or defense‑related programs.
